NASA's purpose is to “stimulate and encourage the interests and involvement of both graduate and undergraduate students in anthropology.” Working with NASA is a great way to gain leadership experience and an excellent opportunity to network with professors, professionals and other students nationwide. Nominees are encouraged to bring and develop their own ideas concerning how NASA can better serve the interests of its student membership.All officers must be members of the American Anthropological Association and NASA. Find out who are currently serving as NASA Officers.The President shall be the presiding officer of the Section and, should the Section be entitled to such representation, its first representative on the Board of Directors of the AAA and its representative on the Executive Committee of the AAA. The primary duties of the President shall be to assure the external affairs of the Association and to chair the Executive Committee.
Will serve a one year term as President-Elect, followed by another year as President. The President-Elect holds one vote in NASA matters and is responsible for internal communications within NASA, coordinating activities of committees, and facilitating NASA's transition into the following year. Former VP Roger Lohmann described an additional duty to “facilitate the creative processes within the organization… and prevent a drift toward stasis.”
Secretary-TreasurerThe Secretary-Treasurer holds one vote in NASA matters and is responsible for submission and maintenance of NASA's annual budget, as well as for timely dispersal of meeting minutes and other pertinent communications, ensuring both timely communication amongst NASA members and a lasting record of NASA activities for future members of the Association.
The Editor holds one vote in NASA matters and is responsible for NASA's presence in Anthropology News. The Editor will solicit contributions for the student column in addition to using the column for NASA information dispersal. The editor from time to time may become involved in additional NASA information dispersal activities.

Posts Calls for NASA Elections; organizes and disseminates NASA Election applications and information; and finally submits the recommendation for the official Elections Slate to the NASA President for vote (November - January); organizes an annual NASA Awards ceremony for students, Officers and outstanding non-Members; recruits and manages a diverse Nominations Committee to assist with the implementation of the above activities; solicits new and former NASA Members and actively participates in NASA's e-mail activities throughout the year; holds one vote in NASA matters; automatically eligible for annual travel grant and other benefits.
Works with the Nominations Committee Chair to posts annual Call for NASA Elections; organize and disseminate NASA Election applications and information; and finally submit the nominations committee's recommendations for the official Elections Slate to the NASA Membership for vote (November-January); organizes the annual NASA Awards ceremony.
Annual Meetings Program Committee Chair
Posts Calls for NASA's Invitation to the AAA Annual Meetings Panel and Invited Poster Session; organizes the structure and applications for the NASA Invited Panel Session and Poster Session; recruits and manages a diverse Annual Meetings Program Committee to assist with the implementation of the above activities; and finally submits the recommendation for the one full Panel Session or two half Panel Sessions to the NASA President for NASA vote (starts early January, due by mid-March); solicits new and former NASA Members; actively participates in NASA's e-mail activities throughout the year; holds one vote in NASA matters; automatically eligible for annual travel grant and other benefits.
The Web Editor position is integral to NASA's mission of distributing information to our constituency in as effective a manner as possible. The Web Editor actively maintains and updates the NASA website as necessary with calendar information, award winner info, NASA officer bios, announcements, and so on using Macromedia Studio MX or a similar web and graphics editing suite. The current site is in template format and the AAA Web Developer handles all file transfer and uploading through zipped archives. The NASA Web Editor also chairs the Web Development Committee which requires working closely with the AAA Web Developer and NASA Web Development Committee members to create and design content for both the NASA website and the AAA Resources for Students in Anthropology.
Compiles information regarding internship, fellowship, and career opportunities as well as announcements for conferences, field schools, workshops and symposia. Distributes this information to interested NASA members through the NASA Opportunities Newsletter.
NASA Travel Award Committee Chair
Works closely with the NASA Travel Award committee to publicize the award through the NASA Website and AAA mailing lists, collect and evaluate applications, and administer an award to one graduate and one undergraduate recipient per year at the AAA Conference.
