Bioethics Interest Group Student Award
The Bioethics Interest Group of the Society for Medical Anthropology is holding its annual student paper competition. Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible. The following rules apply:
- Papers must examine at least one bioethical issue from an anthropological perspective. Empirical research and theoretical pieces are welcome.
- Submissions must follow the standard anthropological format for references & endnotes as outlined in the American Anthropologist style guide.
- Manuscripts must be typed, double-spaced, 12-point font, have one-inch margins.
- The body of the text must be between 15 and 25 pages.
- Include a title and abstract (200 words maximum) on the first page.
- The author’s name, mailing address, email address, telephone number, university affiliation and academic status (undergraduate or graduate) should be typed on a cover sheet separate from the manuscript. Do not include the author’s name on the manuscript.
- Submit four hard copies of the manuscript and one cover sheet by postal mail.
- Papers should be un-published at the time of submission to the BIG competition. If they get published after submission - that is fine.
Two prizes of $100 each will be awarded for the best paper in the undergraduate and graduate categories. Awards will be formally presented at the SMA business meeting. Abstract of the winning entries will be posted on the BIG web page.
