Student Paper Prize Competition

The Association for Political and Legal Anthropology invites students to submit papers to its annual student paper prize competition. The APLA encourages submissions that expand the purview of political and legal anthropology and challenge us in new ways to think anthropologically about power, politics and law. Papers might address issues related to, for example: political and legal institutions and processes; the State; citizenship; civil society; colonialism and post-colonial public spheres; nationalism; multiculturalism; globalization; immigration and refugees; and communicative media.

The winner will receive a cash award in the amount of $300.00, plus travel expenses of up to $300.00 if she or he attends the AAA meetings to receive the prize in person. The winning paper will be published in PoLAR: The Political and Legal Anthropology Review.

Eligibility is open to students in degree-granting programs (including M.A., Ph.D. and J.D.) at the time of submission. Papers should be between 5000 and 7500 words and should be stand-alone pieces.
