Philadelphia Marriott DowntownThe Philadelphia Marriott is committed to the responsibility of protecting the environment for our associates, our guest and our communities. By implementing a wide range of environmental solutions, we intend to increase our efforts every year to conserve and protect natural resources. We will continually expand awareness and action among our associates and will respond to the environmental interest of our guests.

Environmental Policy

Cardboard and paper:

  • Place all news paper, cardboard and office paper in recycling compactor, located on loading dock

Cleaning chemicals:

  • Use only environmentally friendly cleaning supplies
  • Purchase from "Eco-friendly" vendor
  • Purchase in bulk
  • Dispense in reusable non-aerosol dispensers

Community:

  • Adopted Philadelphia Cares Day

Education:

  • Energy conservation tips in hotel newsletter
  • Promote energy conservation yearly poster contest
  • Environmental Awareness month

Energy conservation:

  • Where possible maintain back of house space at 70 heating / 75 coolingPhiladelphia Marriott Downtown guestroom
  • Where possible maintain guest space at +/- 68 cooling & +/- 78 heating
  • Turn it off when not in use
  • Provide occupancy sensor control for closet lighting
  • Maximize use of free cooling capacity (outside air and plate exchanger)

Indoor Air quality:

  • Maintain permanent, reusable “pre-filters” where possible
  • No Smoking policy in effect
  • Computerized energy management/building automation system in use

Lighting:

  • Use only environmentally friendly, energy efficient bulbs
  • Recycle used fluorescent bulbs
  • Exterior lighting on photocell/timer control

Linen:

  • Worn out linen used as rags
  • Bed linen replaced on as-needed basis for stayovers
  • Guest Towels left on towel bar are left for reuse
  • Use colored linen in catering (reduces cleaning chemicals & water temps in laundry)
  • We have invested in conference tables in our small meeting rooms which do not require linen
  • All of our buffets are served on glass tables, which do not require linen

Liquidation:

  • Retired equipment / furniture liquidated for reuse

Restaurant/Kitchen:

  • Eliminate use of non-recycle containers
  • Eliminate use of disposable cup and dishes
  • Use large containers for drinking water/juice/coffee rather then individual bottles
  • Serve condiments in bulk to reduce waste

Transportation:

  • Hotel is located within 1 block of public transportation
  • Secure on-site parking provided for associates that bicycle to work

Water conservation:

  • Eliminate use of bottled water in meeting rooms in favor of pitchers with ice water
  • Use only low consumption shower heads and toilets
  • Automatic faucets in all public restrooms
  • Automatic flush valves in public space restrooms
  • Testing the conversion of hotel urinals to a waterless urinal

Waste Management:

  • Place all food waste in yellow trash containers for shipment to pig farmer
  • Shipping containers and pallets recycled by outside vendor
  • Recycle acid and rechargeable batteries
  • Reclaim and recycle used oils and paints
  • Reclaim and recycle used refrigerants
