Objectives This commission is responsible for developing means by which US-based anthropology can be broadened to include diverse international voices and perspectives. The commission will work towards improving relations between the AAA and other world anthropological associations, encouraging and supporting the translation of works produced in the Global South for presentation and publication in multiple languages, and taking steps to locate meetings in places that would lower barriers to participation and in other ways expand international attendance at anthropology meetings throughout the world.
Responsibilities - To develop policy recommendations for enriching US-based anthropology
- To assist in organizing sessions and meetings at the AAA Annual Meeting that bring the anthropological knowledge production of the Global South to US-based anthropologists
- To propose and facilitate joint meetings with anthropological associations from other countries
- To facilitate the translation, presentation and publication of world anthropologies

- Written report with recommendations and proposed action items for the Executive Board
- Recommendations to the Committee on Scientific Communication on promoting translation in AAA publications
- Recommendations to the AAA Annual Meeting Program Chair on registration fees
Duration and Meeting Schedule
Two meetings per year (one teleconference in the early spring and one face-to-face meeting at the AAA Annual Meeting) for each of the three years of the commission’s duration Membership
The commission is composed of nine members, plus two co-chairs, with the AAA president and president-elect serving in an ex officio capacity and a staff member of the AAA serving as liaison.
